The theme we went with this year kept in the mod vein and decided to form a band with our beautiful models, and we called this band “The Modbots!” Take a look at the gallery below and you will see that we had a lot of fun, and if you want to see the shots up close and personal, come on down to Modsalon at 1508 Water Street in downtown Kelowna!

We all know people love going for a lighter look in the summer months and keeping those blonde locks from going brassy can be a challenge. Swimming, tanning, and sun-bathing can all cause a loss of tone in blonde hair. So this tip relates to all the blondies out there.

Using REDKEN Blonde Glam will help to restore tone back into the hair. Use once a week in place of your regular conditioner, leave for five minutes and rinse.

REDKEN Blonde Glam – Perfect Platinum: Neutralizes brassiness and warm tones to revive the ultra pale light blonde hair. Gives a multi-dimensional shine, and also deeply conditions.

REDKEN Blonde Glam – Rich Vanilla: Rejuvenates the warmth in blonde hair and highlights. It deeply conditions, strengthens, and revitalizes blonde strands.

Good Morning Fellow Mods!
I hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine, and the summer.
Much apologies for missing last weeks tip of the week, so this week there will be two tips of the week!

The first tip of the week is to put on a hair mask before going to the beach; apply REDKEN Extreme-Rescue Force, REDKEN Real Control-Intensive Renewal, or LABEL. M Intensive Mask. Finger through from roots to ends right before going to the beach, the heat from the sun helps open the cuticle (the outer layer of the hair) so the product can enter the cortex (the second layer) of the hair. This is beneficial because it penetrates deeper into the hair shaft for the best results. Sun = Betsy (our beloved hair dryer). Take a dip in the lake after ten minutes of sitting in the sun to rinse off the product.

REDKEN Extreme-Rescue Force: Good for chemically treated blonde hair. Infuses proteins into hair shaft for internal strength, cuticle reinforcement, and protective resurfacing

REDKEN Real Control-Intensive Renewal: Good for dense, dry, brittle, and sensitized hair. Delivers smoothing control, discipline, and internal strength.

LABEL. M Intensive Mask: Good for chemically damaged hair. Restores moisture into the hair, and protects against UV rays and styling tools.

Planning on doing a lot of swimming in the pool this summer? Here’s a tip to keep your hair from turning a not-so-natural shade of green from the chlorine!

Pre-rinse your hair with fresh water before heading in the pool. This will fill the cuticle, stopping the chemicals from being absorbed by the hair, which is drying, damaging, and causes the green tint NO girl needs this summer!

For even greater protection, rinse hair and follow with a moisturizing conditioner and leave it in before you jump in. Following your swim, make sure to rinse hair well, and shampoo and condition as usual. To complete your summer look, let your hair air dry for a tousled, beachy feel, then add a touch of Face Atelier eye shimmer to your lids, and a light kiss of lip gloss, and you are ready for those hot, summer nights!

For more tips and tricks, come on in to the salon. Until next week, enjoy the gorgeous sunshine!

To keep you updated and armed with the best hair tips and tricks, we are now going to be posting weekly our new tips!

The very first week’s tip is:

If you find that your hair is getting a bit of a build up of any product that you are using, a great way to get rid of it is to do a double shampoo. Using a loonie sized drop for the first shampoo you may not get many suds (a big indication of product buildup) and use about half the amount for a second shampoo, this time you should have more sudsing. This will help cleanse your hair and give you a fresh start!

Today was much like yesterdays experience except for a few main points. The Academy seemed so much more homey for us as we trotted into this school saying hellos to the instructors (who were by the way gorgeous!). We also felt a lot more comfortable during the class talking with the staff and getting so much useful advice and insight from these creative directors of the school. We also spent a lot of time learning 2 more colors and 4 more cuts through the morning. In the afternoon we had one to one training with live models again and it was another amazing experience. I connected with a woman who is the North American distribution coordinator for Toni & Guy products called Label M. We will be likely carrying some of these products at Mod Salon soon as we all loved what we were able to acheive with such a little amount of product and effort.

We finished our day with big, tired smiles on our faces and left feeling chock o block full of new information!

One thing more that I wanted to add here is how PATIENT Mr Cory Bates has been on this trip. Not only has he waited and waited and waited outside of many a shop while we invade London and spend a small fortune in ladies attire, but he also waited for us both days that we got out of class way late. Mr Bates, you are a rare breed!

Kirsten, Kate and I all arrived early at the Toni and Guy Academy on Oxford Street, just in time to soak up the environment and get much needed coffees…preparing for what we knew would be a mind bending day of hair culture. Now, I have attended this Academy before so I knew my brain would be overloading within the first few hours…but seeing these ladies faces as they watched the first few demonstrations was really funny…their eyes glazing over while so much information is being thrown out to us…wow! We watched 2 colors and 4 haircuts. all inspired from Toni & Guy’s newest spring catalogue, a session of looks called INTERACTIVE. The themes we picked up among these cuts were; disconnection, overlapping, overhangs, undercutting, block layering, pointcut fringing, bricklay cutting, backcombing with scissors, to name a few! Color techniques were also really cool, mostly block coloring and working with movement among solid shapes and enhancing disconnected shapes, and mimicking the new fashion trends through color choices and shapes…

After lunch we all worked on live models which was a great experience as we learned how to manipulate these themes in so many ways to suit our clients…so watch out! You are all in for a treat and a half!

We left the day full in our heads and then of course had to do some shopping…

Now, Day 4 was a bit disconnected, so i will have to sum it up in parts.

I’ll let you know what i did, and i’m going to have to get the girls to give you the highlights (oooooh, sorry) of their first day in class.

My day started out pretty much at the same time as the girls. Once they had left, I got myself ready and walked down the South Bank, past the Tate, Shakespeare’s Theatre, the Borough, and Tower Bridge towards the London Design Museum. Upon first approach i had a difficult time finding the front door, which, for a Design Museum, is something they should really look into. Once i found it (don’t get me wrong, it didn’t take me that long, i know what a door looks like), I went inside and soaked up all the designy goodness that i could. There was a whole floor of British Insurance Design Award winners, which didn’t mean much to me at the time, but were all very good. The piece that won me over was a table top with about 100 pandas the size of piggy-banks, each with a built-in sensor so that when you walked anywhere near the table, they would all turn and look at you. It’s meant to make you think about how you impact the environment, as all the pandas are staring up at you, making you feel guilty. But it was also creepy being followed by robotic pandas… I couldn’t look away. There was a great feature on the 3rd floor about sustainable design, which ran from entire cities and university campuses down to furniture and Puma’s rethink of how they package their shoes.

After all that professional development, i stopped off and had some brunch and carried on to the Tower Bridge. I never knew you could tour it, but now i can officially say that i have. It is a very functional design, so nothing flashy, but the views are spectacular from the very top.

My next stop was meant to be Emirates Stadium, home of Arsenal Football Club, but when i got there i was disappointed to see that it was closed to the public. My “becoming an Arsenal fan” training is currently on hold.

The rest of my day was spent trying to figure out where i was going to go on day 2 of my free days. I had considered Cambridge, Canterbury, Oxford, Dover, Cardiff and even Edinburgh, but i had a really tough time deciding. What made it even harder to decide was the fact that almost anywhere you go in London, you can only get a London map. Which is great, if you want to figure out where to go in London, but really doesn’t help me in my quest to get out of London! I was hoping to find some small, really unique town right on the sea, but i was out of luck. In the end, i went with a recommendation, i’m currently en route to Canterbury.

After the map-quest, I met up with the girls after their class, who wanted to do another hour of shopping. So about 3 hours later, we went for dinner. We ended up going to Bella Italia for, not only the best meal we’ve had since we’ve been here, but also to celebrate mine and Amy’s 8th anniversary.

It was a great way to end a night, and by the end, we were beat.

So ends another day, stay tuned for the update from the girls on the class portion of the day.
